Lizy Criolla has a passion for highlighting the work of women and people of color in the film industry. So much so, that she created a fan page to honor a filmmaker that strongly represents both: Ava DuVernay. Criolla's love and support for DuVernay's work has caught the attention of the visionary filmmaker herself. As a matter of fact, DuVernay flew Criolla to Disney's D23 Expo to see the first teaser trailer for her latest film project, "A Wrinkle In Time". On top of that, DuVernay tweeted a message to Criolla today to not only wish her a Happy Birthday and thank her for the support, but also tell her that a new "Queen Sugar" character has been named after her.
Today is @LizCriolla's bday! A gem of a lady who started @AvaDuVernayFans, championing my work and that of other women and POC artists. 1/2 pic.twitter.com/BD8SGHEVB5

DuVernay said the character Lizy will debut in episode 215.
I don't know why you chose me to amplify, @LizCriolla. But, I thank you. Hope this makes you smile. Lizy debuts in Ep. 215. Happy bday! 2/2 pic.twitter.com/CDAZG2e0mq

Speaking of "Queen Sugar", the show has officially been renewed for a third season by OWN, plus DuVernay has signed a first-look television and digital media deal with Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Films. The powerhouse duo has collaborated together on several projects including: "Selma", "Queen Sugar", and "A Wrinkle In Time".
Happy Birthday Lizy! And Congratulations to Ava DuVernay and the "Queen Sugar" cast and crew!
