16-Year-Old Goes Viral For Teaching Students Math On TikTok

Wish we had this when we were in school!

A 16-year-old teen has gone viral for teaching math on TikTok, CBS New York reports.

Alexis Loveraz initially joined Tik Tok to do what every other kid is doing, entertain himself and others through funny, short form videos. But soon, Alexis’ friends were encouraging him to help them out on Tik Tok with their schoolwork. With schools closed and millions of students quarantined, learning from home, they could use all the help they can get.

The Bronx native is a junior in highschool with a 4.0 GPA who says he just wanted to help people out. But his videos soon went viral, skyrocketing his views, going from just 3,000 followers in February to more than 165,000 followers today. Now, Alexis has been dubbed the “TikTokTutor,” helping hundreds of thousands of students a day with algebra, geometry and even chemistry.

“I was, like, really shocked. Things that they probably forgot like before COVID-19, this is like a refresher of what I’m, like, giving them out. It’s really cool because they understand it even better the way I’m explaining it to them,” Alexis said.

He’s right! His comments are flooded with students praising him for his teaching methods. “You explain 1000x better than my math teacher!!!,” one student wrote. “Omg thank you so much. I’m failing math and this helps so much!!!,” another added.

The tutorials are definitely for high school aged students and Alexis has even begun covering SAT test questions for his followers. He’s using Google Classroom to enhance the quality of his lessons and has students from all over the globe tuning in. His mother, Likmilian Hiciano, said she is proud of her son.

“I’m excited about this. I know he can do this and more. I’m so proud that he helped a lot of people,” Hiciano said.

When asked why he tutors for free instead of getting paid for it, Alexis said, “The knowledge I have... I want to share it [with] other people.”

Thank you for all you’re doing Alexis! Us parents will tune in too because we all need a refresher course!
