How did high school senior Ariyana Davis get accepted into 22 historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs)? By using a website called Common Black College App, which allows students to apply to up to 50 HBCUs at the same time. That means, Davis got accepted into 22 schools and was awarded $300,000 in scholarships by filling out just one $35 college application.
"It was a pretty amazing experience. I've made so many friends," said Davis, who attends Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School in Chicago, Illinois. "I've been friendly with so many teachers, and I've gotten a lot of support from the entire school."
So far, more than 100,000 students have completed the Common Black College Application and according to its website, individual applicants have received over $500,000 in scholarships.
If Davis could offer any advice to future college applicants, it would be: "Do what you have to do so that you can do what you want to do."
We couldn't agree more! Ariyana plans to pursue accounting at Mississippi’s Alcorn State University in the fall, and after, hopes to obtain her master's degree at the University of Illinois.
