This Black Family-Owned Construction Firm Secured Seven Multi-Million Contracts Including NYC’s JFK Airport

They’re internationally known!

A Black family-owned construction firm was awarded seven multi-million dollar contracts, including one with New York City’s JFK Airport, Black Enterprise reports.

Darrell K. Choates, Sr. and his father, son, and grandson are all owners of Choates G Contracting LLC, a Black, family-owned construction firm based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The family has more than forty years of experience in the industry and Mr. Choates, who operates as the figurehead, has garnered a reputation as a well-respected CEO in the sector.

The company is a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and focuses on managing large-scale development projects including constructing senior living residences and providing software licensing platforms used for creating Smart Cities. Choates is also the owner of Logan Community Enterprise Center, a Philly based nonprofit that serves the community.

For his work, Choates has received a number of honors, including being named Minority Contractor of the Year in 2011 and receiving a Best of Philly award in both 2014 and 2016. Now, Choates Contracting has landed seven new multi-million dollar contracts for notable developments, including a $30 million project at JFK Airport’s Terminal 1 and a $25 million project in Ghana.

With business on the rise, Choates said they won’t be slowing down anytime soon, recently expanding their business holdings. One of the newest offerings is Personal Care Home C&G, which provides services for the sick and elderly, recently launching a platform called Heartbeat Health Care that allows physicians to deliver telemedicine during the pandemic. They’ve also partnered with Israeli firm Mobi Technology to create “Smart City” solutions, providing technology support for issues like traffic gridlock, emergency communication, and crime tracking.

The Choates family hopes that they can continue providing quality services for their community, hoping to create more jobs for residents in the areas they serve, continue to expand internationally, and consistently look for opportunities to support organizations and social causes that help push the country in a more positive direction.
