They’re leading the change!
TIME just released their annual Women of the Year list, and they're highlighting the influencers who are fighting for equality and leading change across the globe. These 12 women use their platforms in service of the greater good. The honorees' work span the gamut of their experiences, exuding passion and sharing stories of tragedy and triumph that led to a breakthrough. The stories inspire, challenge, and empower women everywhere to create their own extraordinary legacy and build bridges and pathways within their own communities.
“Our annual Women of the Year list… examines the most uplifting form of influence by spotlighting leaders who are using their voices to fight for a more equal world. The 12 women featured on this year’s list come from across the globe and have made significant impact in their respective communities and fields, from activism and government to sports and the arts,” said TIME Executive Editor Naina Bajekal and Senior Editor Lucy Feldman via statement.
Below is a list of the remarkable Black women who are honored on the 2023 list. Check out the full list at TIME and read more about their journeys. The women will be honored at the second annual Women of the Year Gala held on International Women’s Day, March 8th, in Los Angeles.
Angela Bassett, Iconic Actress
“Women are called upon to be wives, sisters, friends, mothers, community leaders, activists, and we have it in our core to be these things. But it’s important to give to yourself first, and then you have more to share with the world,” said Bassett.
The pioneering actress took to social media to dedicate the honor to “every little Black and brown girl who has a dream.”
