Dove is launching a new social initiative called Real Beauty Productions, which is a production company that seeks to tell the authentic beauty stories of women and girls everywhere. Who better to bring their stories to life than the expert storyteller herself, Shonda Rhimes? That's right, the beauty giant has partnered with the television powerhouse to launch its new campaign. Watch Rhimes, who will serve as the creative director, explain her new partnership below.
"They always use real women (in ads), but they never really told the stories of real women," Rhimes said. "I love that they wanted to do something that involved storytelling. I love that they wanted to give voice to real women. You don't see a lot of real-looking women on television and we work hard to sort of try to fix that and make that happen, but there's not that many. … The idea that they want to help women redefine what beauty is, is cool to me. That's a perfect thing that should be happening. The idea that there is a definition right now that everybody is obsessed with needs to expand and change."
According to Dove, "69% of women...said (they) don't see themselves as adequately represented in ads, movies and TV." How can everyday women help change that? Starting today, they can submit their personal beauty stories at doverealbeauty.com for a chance to join Rhimes on set and tell their own story. Selected women will be featured in Dove's upcoming ads.
