Serena Williams Wins First Title Since Becoming A Mother

On Sunday, tennis icon Serena Williams won her first title since 2017, and her daughter, Olympia, was there to cheer her on.

Williams beat 25-year-old Jessica Pegula 6-3, 6-4 at the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand. It marks the first trophy she’s won since the 2017 Australian Open. Unbeknownst to her fans, Williams was pregnant with her daughter at the time.

“It feels good. It’s been a long time,” she said in her post match interview.

According to ESPN, Williams donated her prize money to fundraising efforts for the Australian wildfire victims.

"I've been playing in Australia for over 20 years and it's been hard for me to watch all of the news that's been happening in Australia with all of the fires.”

At 38-years-old, Williams is still sprinkling Black Girl Magic on the court with no signs of slowing down.

"I have been playing for so long and been through so much and I'm happy to be doing something I love.”

Next up is the Australian Open where Williams will compete for her 24th major title. The tournament begins on January 20.

Congratulations Serena! We’re all rooting for you!
