Another record under her belt!
A 2003 Serena Williams trading card has set a new record as the highest-priced card featuring a woman athlete, Afrotech reports.
Williams is no stranger to history-making milestones and is considered one of the greatest athletes of all time. From winning 23 Grand Slam titles to being named female athlete of the decade by The Associated Press, to having a building designed at Nike in her honor, she is known to break a record or two. Now she’s added another notch under her belt, a 2003 trading card featuring the athlete’s likeness becoming the highest-priced sold trading card featuring a woman athlete.
A 2003 Serena Williams NetPro signed patch rookie card sold for $266,400, doubling the previous record of $117,000 held by a woman athlete. The NetPro pack was the first tennis set to be available to the public in more than 10 years, the Goldin Auctions company holding the licensing for several major athletes including Williams’ sister Venus.

Sports trading cards remain a hot commodity, cards from athletes like LeBron James and Michael Jordan being in high demand. Last year, a T206 Honus Wagner card sold for $6.6 million, setting the record for men’s trading cards.
Apparently, Williams also held the previous record, a bidder purchasing her July 1999 Sports Illustrated For Kids rookie card in January. In March, another one of Williams cards was sold for more than $91,000 on eBay.
The buyer has yet to be named, Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian confirming that while he is always supporting his wife, he is not the recipient of the latest trading card.
Let's go, Serena!
