Well deserved roses!
Keanon Lowe is the Oregon high school football coach who went viral last year after a video surfaced showing him disarming a student at his school and preventing another potential mass shooting. Now Lowe will receive the Congressional Medal of Honor for his care, compassion and bravery, Tank’s Good News reports.
Last May, Lowe was captured on surveillance video taking away a loaded firearm from a student at Parkrose High School in Portland, Oregon. After passing the gun to another faculty member, Lowe embraced the student in a hug and talked to him until police arrived. “In that time, I felt compassion for him. A lot of times, especially when you’re young, you don’t realize what you’re doing until it’s over,” Lowe told reporters at the time.

Now, the coach is one of six being honored by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society for “[exemplifying] the values embodied in the Medal of Honor: courage, sacrifice, commitment, integrity, citizenship, and patriotism.”
Lowe is set to receive the Society’s Single Act of Heroism award. “[He was] selected for his courageous act when he disarmed a student with a loaded shotgun during an incident at Parkrose High School in Portland, Oregon… Mr. Lowe is attributed with saving the lives of the students and faculty of Parkrose High School,” the organization announced in a statement.
