North Carolina A&T State University’s Kayla White just broke a world record. According to HBCU Gameday, the track star completed the indoor 200-meter sprint in 22.82 seconds at the University of Arkansas’ Tyson Invitational, giving her the fastest time in the world in 2019.
“She’s special,” Duane Ross, N.C. A&T’s director of track and field programs shared with media. “She was due to drop something fast. Her training has been going well and she’s hungry to be the best. I knew the race was won once she stepped into the blocks. Her focus and preparation were great this weekend.”

The win also brings to mind just how important it is to support historically Black colleges and universities. Supporting these institutions allows students like Kayla, who is a senior at North Carolina A&T and a native of Miami, to consistently move forward in building their careers.
This latest feat is proof that when Black Girl Magic collides with the sports world, major things happen. From the Team Antigua Island Girls to Simone Biles, Black women are thriving at all levels and we couldn’t be more proud.
