Michelle Obama recently announced, via YouTube, that she will be going on a tour to encourage people to register to vote and also gave an "all call" to anyone interested in volunteering and or hosting an event to support the tour. She'll be touring September 22-29 for a "week of action" as a part of a new voter registration initiative, "When We All Vote."
The debut of Obama’s YouTube announcement on Monday also commemorated the 53rd anniversary of former President Lyndon B. Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act into law in 1965. The signing of this historic document legally eliminated discriminatory voting practices prevented African Americans from exercising their right to vote.
"There’s too much at stake to sit on the sidelines, not just in this election, but in every election, and we need your help right now,” said Obama in her video announcement.
Obama’s week of action travels will take her to Detroit, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas, New York, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Houston, and Milwaukee. She currently serves as co-chair of “When We All Vote” along with her husband and 44th U.S. president, Barack Obama, and a host of other notable names, including: Tom Hanks, Janelle Monáe, Chris Paul, Faith Hill, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Tim McGraw.
