Another week, another surprise visit from the 44th First Lady of the United States! Today, Michelle Obama kicked off International Women's Day by surprising a group of 12 girls at Cardozo Education Campus, a combined middle school and high school located in Washington, D.C. While there, she and the young ladies engaged in a roundtable discussion about education and their future goals. Most of the girls are a part of the school’s international program for recent immigrants; some coming from countries in Africa and Latin America.
The surprise visit was captured on Mrs. Obama's SnapChat story, where her followers saw the girls' priceless reactions to being in the presence of a former First Lady. Following their sit down and a number of hugs, Mrs. Obama took to social media to share details about her visit.
In 2015, President and First Lady Obama launched the "Let Girls Learn" initiative, a social campaign created to ensure that all girls have access to a quality education. Today, its legacy continues to inspire girls everywhere to reach higher and dream bigger; we can thank Michelle Obama for that.
