Meet the Black Woman Who Created a Nail Polish Line That Caters to Darker Skin Tones

These nail polish colors were created to pop on Black women!

Jacqueline Carrington is a wife and mother of 3 children who founded the nail polish line, People of Color. After six years of working in the property management industry, she decided to start her beauty brand in October 2019. Growing up, Carrington was always drawn to the pop of color polishes have on different skin tones, but there were rarely images of those colors reflected on brown skin. It wasn’t until her 3-year-old daughter came home from visiting grandma's house with her nails done that she got the idea for her beauty brand. Check out her GMA interview below:

Her polishes are vegan, cruelty-free, and considered “10-free,” meaning it is free from 10 of the most common toxins found in the majority of polishes on the market. "People of Color (PoC) is on a mission to celebrate and represent people of color through our nail polish collections and the stories that they tell. We want our tribe to know that our brand celebrates them and their beauty."

The nail polishes certainly embody Black culture! From a collection named "For the Culture" that includes colors like Around the Way Girl (lime green) and Soul Glo (glow orange) to their "Queen" collection, which highlights Black queens like Moremi, Lili’uokalani, Makeda, Rani Chennamma, and Anacaona, PoC was made for us and by us!

You can purchased nail polish on the company website, online on Urban Outfitters and Lord and Taylor! You can also catch Jacque as a vendor at local markets in Los Angeles.

Keep nailing it, Jacque!
