This Founder's Health Struggle Inspired Her To Start A Frozen Yogurt Company For Gut Health

This Black woman-owned artisan creamery company is reversing the stats!

According to the National Library of Medicine, evidence shows that more than 80% of Black women will have uterine fibroids by age 50. Ehime Eigbe, also known as “The Dairy Queen,” became a pioneer of frozen yogurt in Africa after her own experience with fibroids. Growing up, she didn’t always have a great relationship with food and after being diagnosed with a uterine fibroid in 2009, she knew she had to approach her health in a new way. As she started to educate herself on healthy eating habits and different ingredients, she sparked the idea for a frozen yogurt company: Sweetkiwi.

Eigbe started Sweetkiwi in 2011 and has seen tremendous growth since, the company priding itself on the use of real and natural ingredients with whipped greek yogurt full of protein and probiotics.

With three storefronts and her frozen yogurt pints found in over 1700 stores, including Whole Foods, Walmart and Kroger, Sweetkiwi has earned Eigbe many awards. She’s been deemed one of Nigeria’s 100 most inspiring women and received honors like the OXFAM ‘Work in Progress’ Award and the British Council Alumni Award. She has plans of expanding to Canada, Mexico and the UK with hopes to increase local dairy production in Nigeria.
