Kayla White added her name to the record books when she completed the indoor 200-meter sprint in 22.82 seconds at the University of Arkansas’ Tyson Invitational last month, scoring the fastest time in the world this year.

Although her time was beaten a few weeks later, White earned the title right back at a recent National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) indoor meet, where she ran the 200-meter in 22.66 seconds. While there, she also became the first North Carolina A&T student to win an NCAA national championship.

Now, the N.C. A&T senior has been named the NCAA Division I Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.

“I just want to leave a legacy, not only for my teammates and my university but for (historically Black college and university) athletes all over the country,” North Carolina A&T reports White saying. "I think that is so important."

White, who has a total of 14 indoor and outdoor Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference titles, will be entering the outdoor season with one first-team, All-American honor in the indoor 200-meter, second-team All-American honors in the 100-meter hurdles and the 4x100, and two first-team All-American honors in the 60-meter hurdles.

"I'm not just an HBCU sprinter. I'm one of the best sprinters in the nation," said White.

Yes, you are. Keep blazing your own trail, Kayla!
