For the Second Year in a Row Howard University Defeats Harvard University In The Great Debate

This past week, Howard University was victorious over Harvard University in the 10th Annual State NAACP Conference “Great Debate,” Howard News reports.

According to WTNH News 8, The Great Debate was held in Hartford, CT in front of an audience of 10,000. This is the 10th year of the debate and the second year in a row that Howard has won against Harvard University. Last year, the teams debated Colin Kaepernick’s kneeling tactic during the playing of the National Anthem during NFL games and the total ban of automatic weapons for civilian use according to Howard News. 

Students debated two resolutions, the pursuit of “the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump [and whether] Roc Nation, the business affiliated with Jay-Z should not have entered into a contract with the NFL. 

Every year the NAACP sponsored event brings out large crowds. Schools bus in their students to cheer on the teams in sports arenas. The debate is the largest collegiate intellectual competition of its kind in the nation. 

The Howard University Debate Team competes mainly in a parliamentary debate style which centers around a student’s oratory and analytical capacity. The team is led by Professor Angela Minor, Esq., the Director of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Forensics Society and a member of the Department of Strategic Legal and Management Communication.
