Father-Son Duo Launch Online Financial Literacy Summer Camp

They want to inspire the next generation of wealth!

Kevon Chisolm and his 16-year-old son Kamari are the founders of Junior Wallstreeters, Inc., a nonprofit geared towards offering financial literacy camps for youth, Black Enterprise reports. Currently in their fourth year of operating, Chisolm’s camps help prevent learning loss by offering fun environments for students to explore wealth-building concepts in community with their peers.

“In addition to topics like budgeting, banking, and investing in the stock market, our camp goes beyond others by exploring community wealth building through investment clubs,” said Chisolm.

The Junior WallStreeters: Empowering Youth with Financial Wellness camp teaches foundational financial education skills, offering 10 lessons that incorporate African American history and culture. The father-son duo believe it’s important to teach financial literacy in an effort to close the wealth gap that exists for Black and brown people. By targeting underserved communities, they hope to create a pipeline for Black wealth.

“Our goal is to teach financial education to address the wealth gap by showing young people how to properly use money as a tool…In addition to topics like budgeting, banking, and investing in the stock market, our camp goes beyond others by exploring community wealth building through investment clubs,” said Chisolm.

The camp is for students ages 12 - 21 who have a computer with Internet access. In addition to financial literacy and investment clubs, Junior Wallstreeters also offers an “Introduction to Cryptocurrency and NFTs,” and “Stock Analysis” course. Camp is held virtually every two weeks for six weeks from June 26th - August 4th, 10:30am-3:30pm EST. The two week sessions range in cost from $300 to $325 and the fee includes daily course access and an electronic student handbook. Junior Wallstreeters also offer several scholarships for those in need of financial assistance.

“We want to give as many students the opportunity to obtain a financial education regardless of their parent’s financial situation,” said Chisolm.
