Almost 20,000 people gathered at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois last night to watch President Barack Obama deliver his Farewell Address. Even more were glued to their television screens as Obama reflected on his last eight years in office, America’s reality, and his hope for the future. As people tuned in across the country, it was evident that many parents dismissed bedtimes to allow their children to take part in the historic moment. Here are a few of the photos and thoughts that made us feel like the future is brighter than ever before... The kid at the end summarizes how we ended the night.
I will never forget this night. Holding my son close as I watch such a remarkable man make his #farewell speech here in Chicago. Besides his beautiful spirit of hope and freedom, he is an example to my sons that the color of their skin should not deter them from their dreams. He energized and inspired so many. They should also strive to do the same. #farewellobama #presidentobama #faith #hope #blackboyjoy #potus #flotus #chicago #legacy #barackobama
We said goodbye together, my mom, Ava, and I. Ava sat in my lap and we shared a moment in history together. She's too young to be able remember his legacy, but tonight to clapped, cheered and told our president, "I love you". #mrpresident #farewell #thankyou #history #historical #nighttoremeber #obama #2017 #farewellobama
Okay...let me 1st say: I was raised in a very politically aware household...We did a lot of reading, had a lot of conversations and debates, and my 1st visit into the voting polls with my mom was at age 12. You know what they say...the 🍎 doesn't fall too far from the tree...I am holding in my laughter, consoling my baby, and I kind of feel the same way. MY BABY IS CRYING OVER OBAMA LEAVING OFFICE!!!!😩😔😂 Damn!!! #farewell #obama #farewellobama #realtears #44 #singlemomsrock #singlemom #singledad #singleparent #parenthood #mommyduties #tsmd #thesinglemomdiary
