Here's something positive that happened in the city of Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend.

On Saturday, during a Back-to-School Block Party organized by Dream and Dreamin' Diamonds, a group of young men and women handed out almost 100 backpacks to children and families in need of school supplies. The community event included food, games, giveaways, special performances, and a Virginia City Council Candidate, Nikuyah Walker, as its guest speaker.

Charlottesville Vice-Mayor Wes Bellamy, who came out to support the event and donate school supplies, took to social media to express how proud he was of the young people for giving back to their community, especially during the outbreak of violence that was simultaneously happening in the city.

"Today, while it appeared to be chaos throughout the city, for nearly four hours, I witnessed young brothers and a host of others give away nearly 100 book bags filled with supplies to kids and families in need, have games and music for the community, and provide a safe space for everyone to enjoy themselves," Bellamy wrote on Instagram.

"I am extremely proud of these young men and women, and their commitment to our community. Thanks for being a beacon of light today. Much love and respect."

Yes! Thank you all for using your platform to give back, bring light, and make a difference in your community.
