"Black-ish" star Yara Shahidi is going to Harvard University!
After receiving a college recommendation letter from former First Lady Michelle Obama and getting into every school she applied to, Shahidi has decided to continue her education at Harvard University. The 17-year-old revealed the news exclusively to Entertainment Tonight at the 14th Annual Step Up Inspiration Awards.
"I committed to Harvard and I'm really excited!" Shahidi told ET.
Then on Tuesday, Shahidi took to her Instagram page to announce her college decision in her own special way. She posted a photo of herself wearing a Harvard hoodie, along with a quote from her favorite author James Baldwin: "The paradox of education is precisely this - that as one begins to become conscious one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated."
We imagine Mrs. Obama couldn't be any prouder of Shahidi's decision, as she herself earned a law degree from Harvard. The Obamas' eldest daughter, Malia is also starting Harvard in the fall after taking a gap year, which Shahidi intends to do before matriculation.
From landing her own "Black-ish" college spin-off show, to committing to a top university, to planning to double major in sociology and African American studies, it's safe to say Yara Shahidi has a really bright future ahead of her.
