Beloved Rapper DMX Joins The Ancestors At 50-Years-Old

Remembering a rap legend!

DMX, born Earl Simmons, passed away Friday following a heart attack on April 2 that left him on life support. His family released a statement announcing he passed with relatives by his side.

“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart, and we cherish the times we spent with him,” the Simmons family said. “[He] inspired countless fans across the world, and his iconic legacy will live on forever.”

The rapper and actor known for his iconic growls and bark was born in Mount Vernon, NY, on Dec. 18, 1970, to Arnett Simmons and Joe Barker. He grew up in Yonkers, where he started performing as a beatboxer as a teen. He wrote poetry depicting his struggles which laid the foundation for his lyrics years later as a battle rapper. Although his rough upbringing and gruff demeanor as a rapper sold records, he showed the world there was triumph and healing amidst his pain.

We celebrate him and the joy he spread in music, movies, and his candid moments. He was a multifaceted artist who displayed what it meant to be a human.

The internet has been collectively grieving his passing, with celebrities and fans sharing their favorite moments and memories of him.

His children and family members survive him.

We send our condolences to all those who loved him.
