Ava DuVernay Announces Massive Tweet-A-Thon With Fellow Filmmakers

This is going to be good!

Filmmaker Ava DuVernay announces a 10 hour tweet-a-thon featuring filmmakers of all genres.

The daylong initiative is the fourth for DuVernay’s ARRAY arts collective, focused on giving directors the opportunity to share info about their craft, host Q&A’s between film lovers and release information about new projects to their following. This year’s tweet-a-thon will come with an added responsibility, reminding people to stay home during the pandemic.

“The ARRAY Film Fellowship is our way of conjuring community, creativity and conversation while we’re all staying at home during these unprecedented times. With the support and enthusiasm of our friends at Twitter, along with dozens of my fellow filmmakers, we hope the event brings solace and solidarity to those who join us,” DuVernay said in a statement.

More than three dozen directors have signed on to participate including Malcolm D. Lee (Girls Trip), Matthew Cherry (Hair Love), George Tillman (The Hate U Give), Julie Dash (Daughters of the Dust), Michael Schultz (Cooley High), Bill Duke (A Rage in Harlem), Ernest Dickerson (Juice), Robert Townsend (The Five Heartbeats), Nia DaCosta (Candyman) and Blitz Bazawule (The Burial of Kojo).

Lara Cohen, head of Global Partner Solutions at Twitter echoed DuVernay’s sentiments about the initiative, saying, “We’re honored to host ARRAY’s fourth annual filmmaker tweet-a-thon and partner with the brilliant Ava DuVernay and her wonderful and creative team. Highlighting voices and connecting artists to their audience with conversations is core to Twitter, and never has that felt more important. This is going to be a magical day for #FilmTwitter!”

The daylong creative conversation with film buffs is set to take place Thursday, April 30th, starting at 12pm EST. For more information and a full list of participating directors visit

We can’t wait to join in the conversation Ava!
