OneUnited Bank, the nation’s largest Black-owned bank, recently announced that as part of its Royalty Campaign they will have a new line of Queen Visa Debit Cards that feature Black women, reports Blavity.
According to a statement released by the bank, OneUnited “is celebrating a new generation of Queens in America who are claiming their thrones. From scientists to activists, from educators to entertainers, Black women are changing the world.”
The bank continues by underscoring the impact of #BlackGirlMagic in various industries and highlights the influence of past and present leaders like Harriet Tubman, Shirley Chisholm, Angela Davis, Aretha Franklin, Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey and more. OneUnited also points out the significant gains that Black women are making in entrepreneurship, by stating that from 2007 to 2018, the number of businesses owned by Black women grew by 164%.
“We agree with Maya Angelou,” says OneUnited President and COO Teri Williams. “If you’re always trying to be normal you will never know how amazing you can be. We encourage the Black community to celebrate the amazing past, present and future Queens in our community.”
OneUnited says that its new campaign aligns with its efforts to take the #BankBlack and #BuyBlack movements to the next level.
“As the leader in the Black banking industry, we take the challenge to strengthen the Black community’s financial future very seriously,” the bank said in a statement about its #BankBlack challenge.
“When people #BankBlack the result is better circulation of Black dollars with Black businesses, the creation of more jobs for the Black community, more access to affordable home loans, education for urban communities on financial literacy, and most importantly, the power of the Black dollar is increased.”
