There's a new challenge circulating on social media called the #BookPhoneChallenge, which encourages users to take a photo holding a stack of books to their ear to show what they're reading. Created by Lord Jamar of the legendary rap group Brand Nubian, the challenge counters the "money phone" phenomenon and celebrates reading and the power of knowledge.
Everyone from adults to children to families have joined in on the challenge and shared some of their favorite or current reads including W.E. B. Du Bois' "The Souls of Black Folk", Alex Haley’s "The Autobiography of Malcolm X", Ta-Nehisi Coates’ "Between The World And Me", Michelle Alexander’s "The New Jim Crow" and Margot Lee Shetterly's "Hidden Figures". See more of our favorites below.
Does it get any better than this?! Thank you Lord Jamar for using your platform to create an empowering initiative that inspires us all.
