Marvel announces Mahershala Ali as the Star in New ‘Blade’ Reboot

This past weekend at San Diego’s Comic-Con 2019, Marvel announced the exciting news that it was bringing back its blockbuster franchise “Blade.” But this time, instead of Wesley Snipes starring in the film, Marvel has tapped Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali.

Ali was at the event during the announcement and was welcomed by a cheering crowd as he sported his own “Blade” hat. So far, no release data was announced for the film and very little information was shared about who else will star in the reboot.

Blade, which is a character in the Marvel universe who is half-human and half-vampire, first appeared on our screens in 1998. According to Essence, the first installment of the film grossed an estimated $131.2 million at the box office, with two sequels coming out later in 2002 and 2004.

In addition to announcing the “Blade” reboot, Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige also announced the rest of the lineup of feature films for the next two years including Anthony Mackie appearing in the “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” in the fall of 2020.

Also, according to NBC News, Tessa Thompson will appear as Marvel Studios’ first LGBTQ superhero in the fourth “Thor” movie, which will be released in November 2021. She will star alongside Chris Hemsworth, who will return as the Norse god, and Natalie Portman, who will be the female Thor.
