'Black-ish' star Marsai Martin is making a transition from the small to big screen - and she's doing with a story idea that she pitched.
The 14-year-old's latest project, 'Little,' also starring Regina Hall and Issa Rae, hilariously tells the story of bossy tech mogul Jordan Sanders (Hall) who turns little following a run- in with a li girl. Martin plays the younger version of Jordan, and Rae, takes on the role of Jordan's assistant, or should we say legal guardian.
"I was very comfortable (on set) because they were my people," Martin shared with Essence. "Working on a bunch of sets, you kind of don’t see that often. The more comfortable you are, the more confident you are — in how you say your lines or how you perform in a certain scene because you’re working with great people, who will watch over you and won't let you down."
Those people include 'Black-ish creator' Kenya Barris, Will Packer and his production partner James Lopez, as well as Tracy Oliver and Tina Gordon. In addition to co-writing the script with Oliver, Gordon also helmed the film. Martin and Hall executive produced the project along with Josh Martin and Preston Holmes.
With 'Little' set to hit theaters on April 12, we look forward to seeing a triple dose of Black girl magic and Martin's vision come into full bloom.
