The breakout Jordan Peele-directed film "Get Out" won big at the African American Film Critics Association. The satirical thriller centered around race relations was named the year's Best Picture and won Best Directing, Best Acting and Best Screenplay.

"The films released in 2017 captured a plethora of lifestyles, experiences and emotions that allowed our members to engage with a different range of storylines from previous years," said AAFCA co-founder and President Gil Robertson.

In the announcement, the group also revealed "Girls Trip" as the Best Comedy and Netflix's breakout film "Mudbound" for Best New Media. Its top 10 films and TV series of 2017 was also unveiled with ABC's "Black-ish" and Own's "Queen Sugar" prevailing as the big winners.
