Hampton University's “Marching Force” Selected to Perform in 2020 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Hampton University “Marching Force” will spend the next 18 months gearing up to perform in the 2020 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. This will mark the marching band’s first appearance in this annual event that draws crowds and television viewers from all over the world.

“The ‘Marching Force’ is an elite group of talented, young musicians and dancers who are academically accomplished. This opportunity will allow Hampton University to once again shine on the world-wide stage in front of the millions in attendance and others watching from across the globe,” said Hampton University President, Dr. William R. Harvey.

The Force was selected by the Macy’s Parade Band Committee out of more than 100 participation applicants. The 2020 parade will be the 94th rendition of the holiday event and Hampton University will be center stage representing the state of Virginia and also continuing to showcase the rich HBCU culture and legacy embodied by their marching style and presentation.

To date HBCUs like “The Blue and Gold Marching Machine” of North Carolina A&T State University, “The Purple Marching Machine” of Miles College, “The Marching Storm” of Prairie View A&M University, and “The Magnificent Marching Machine” of Morgan State University have participated in the parade.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is held in New York City each year on a parade route stretching more than two miles. Each year the event involves more than 8,000 participants and features some of America’s best marching bands, floats, and signature oversized character balloons. The parade airs on Thanksgiving Day and is a long-held tradition for many families.

Congratulations, Hampton University “Marching Force!”
