Have you seen today's Google doodle? It honors the "Queen of Tejano music," Selena Quintanilla-Perez and her first studio album "Selena", which was released 28 years ago today on October 17, 1989.
The animated doodle, created by artist Kevin Laughlin and engineer Jacob Howcroft, includes Selena's classic song "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom", who the Global Marketing Lead for Google Doodles, Perla Campos, says "embodies her power and how talented an artist she was." In her short life, Selena became the first Tejano artist to win a Grammy award and blazed a trail for generations of Latina women in the entertainment industry.
"This is someone I looked up to my entire my life and I wanted to create something special," says Campos, "who considered the singer a role model who helped her embrace her cultural identity while growing up," according to Forbes.

The Google team and the Quintanilla family worked closely together on both the doodle and Google's special Selena exclusive content collection, which is now included in its online Arts and Culture Exhibit.
"I hope that people will look at this Google Doodle and realize that Selena is still relevant to us as Latinos," says Suzette Quintanilla, sister of the late singer. "She’s an icon (in) our culture and among our people, and a role model. … And to my family, it is most important that she is not forgotten."
