Barely Teenagers, These Brothers are Balancing a Bakery and College Classes

Success smells sweet, especially when you’re baking it.

At just 13, and 12, brothers Shane and Nigel Mushambi are already successful business owners through their bakery, Two Bros. in the Kitchen. The siblings decided to launch the business after dominating a local baking competition three years in a row.

Based in Missouri City, Texas, the brothers use their ability to appeal to their customer’s sweet tooth to give back to the community. According to ABC13, for every cupcake or cake they sell, they donate part of the proceeds to charity.

"We like giving back to the community because the community has given a lot to us," said Shane. "We give to Fort Bend Cares and the JB Dondolo Foundation, which is trying to rebuild a hospital in Africa."

Their love for baking can be traced to their love for math and science. Shane, who is in the eighth grade, is already taking college-level math and engineering at Houston Community College while seventh grader, Nigel, is preparing to take pre-calculus.

"I like to bake because it's a mix of art and a mix of science," said Shane. "You need to know how acids react to bases."

The two have gathered their experience in the classroom and kitchen into their first book, Beyond the Kitchen: How to Cook Up Success with Life's Mistakes.

"It's about our failures that we've made in the kitchen and how we learned from them,” Nigel told ABC13.
