Ava DuVernay is owning her magic on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
She has captivated audiences on OWN since 2016 with her series adaptation of the novel, “Queen Sugar," and now, she's bringing another series to life on the network. According to Variety, the romance anthology, 'Cherish the Day,' “chronicles the romance of one couple, with each episode spanning a single day. The season-long narrative will unfold to reveal significant moments in a relationship that compel people to hold true to the ones they love, from the extraordinary to the everyday.”
The series will be executive produced by DuVernay and Oprah Winfrey.
“Ava is a visionary storyteller,” said Winfrey. “She brings so much care, so much heart, so much love to the art she creates. I’m excited to continue collaborating together with our very first anthology series for OWN.”
The collaborations between DuVernay and Winfrey thus far have been magical. The two first met in 2013, after David Oyelowo encouraged Winfrey to watch DuVernay’s Indie-film, ‘Middle of Nowhere’, that he acted in. From there they went on to work together on Selma which DuVernay directed and Winfrey co-starred in and produced.
“OWN is home,” DuVernay said. “I’m honored to create television for a network headed by an artist with spectacular vision and unbridled passion for the stories that we want to tell.”
Mark your calendars now, the series is set to debut in 2020.
