All The Stars Gathered Under The Sea For The Little Mermaid Premiere

Wish we could be part of that world!

The live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid is about to hit theaters and last night, the premiere was held in Hollywood. While Halle Bailey was definitely the star of the show, so many other stars showed up with everyone anticipating her performance as the first Black Ariel. The momentous occasion was marked by the presence of other celebrities who are staples in Black animation culture like Anika Noni Rose, who portrayed Princess Tiana, Disney’s first Black animated princess in The Princess and the Frog, and Kyla Pratt, who voiced Penny Proud in The Proud Family

Also present at the premiere was Bailey’s sister, singer Chloe Bailey, Marsai Martin, Hollywood’s youngest executive producer and creator of Disney’s new show Saturdays, veteran actresses, Tia Mowry and Tamera Mowry with their little ones, and rapper Offset who brought his girls Kulture and Kalea. It was a star studded event where Bailey paid homage to those who paved the way before her as Black Disney princesses, Yahoo! News reports. She told reporters she was really excited for viewers to finally see the film she worked so hard for and thankful to be a part of creating representation for the next generation of viewers.

“I hope that they just know they are worthy. And we deserve to be in these spaces, and I hope that they see themselves and be on the screen. I’m just grateful to be here. There were women before me like Brandy and Anika Rose, who really were the blueprint for me to even be able to be here today. So, I’m just taking this moment all in. I’m so excited,” said Bailey.
