Last weekend Issa Rae challenged her Insecure co-star, Yvonne Orji, to buy out a theater in support of the new film, “Little.” Orji accepted and took the challenge a step further. She challenged her friend Luvvie to do the same and from there, the challenge grew.
Luvvie Ajayi of Awesomely Luvvie, Myleik Teele of CurlBox, Cynthia Erivo of Widows and the upcoming Harriet film, Courtney Adeleye of The Mane Choice and Supacent of The Crayon Case all accepted and bought out theaters in their respective cities.
Not only did they help to make the film accessible for others, but together they used positive peer pressure to uplift and support the dream of Hollywood’s youngest executive producer, Marsai Martin.
Martin pitched the idea for what would become “Little” when she was just 10-years-old. The film pulled in big numbers over the weekend, rounding itself out at $15.5M.
If you haven’t seen it yet, go see it! And challenge your peer group to do the same!
