The United States Air Force Academy confirmed its first Black superintendent, WTVR reports.
Lt. Gen. Richard M. Clark was named the superintendent of the U.S. Air Force Academy, making history the first African-American to hold the title. The Richmond, Virginia native graduated from the Academy in 1986, working in various Air Force Command forces spanning 30+ years. He previously worked as Commandment of Cadets and as a pilot specializing in bombing and air-refueling. Clark currently heads nuclear expertise at the Pentagon.

As superintendent, Clark will lead the Colorado Springs Academy’s undergraduate program, cadet military, character development, and athletic training program.
“It is a tremendous honor to be confirmed to serve as the next superintendent of the Air Force Academy. I look forward to once again being part of the institution that has provided me so many opportunities.”
Clark will be succeeding Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria, whose leadership he called “exceptional.”
