More Black Girl Magic
Asya Branch was just crowned Miss Mississippi USA, becoming the second Black woman to capture the title in the pageant’s 67 year history, the Clarion Ledger reports.
Branch was the former Miss Mississippi 2018. Now that she has won the USA 2020 title, she will go on to represent Mississippi in the Miss USA pageant this spring.
She took to social media to speak about her win. “I’m ecstatic to be representing Mississippi at Miss USA! I’m so grateful for the support system that I’ve had behind me throughout this journey. Friends, family, and sponsors, I will never be able to thank you enough,” Branch said.
A native of Booneville, Branch graduated from the University of Mississippi and staked her pageant platform on “Empowering Children of Incarcerated Parents,” a cause near and dear to her heart.
“My father’s been incarcerated half of my life, and it was tough, extremely tough...going through school, being judged,” she told the Clarion Ledger. “I want to empower people all throughout our state. Not just women, but young children, young men, young adults. Just anyone, young or old, I want to leave some sort of impact in their lives,” she said.
The Miss USA pageant will be held in the spring.
Congratulations Asya!! We are all so proud of you!
