Hidden Figures Unseats Star Wars Film for The #1 Spot at the Box Office

In the opening weekend of its nationwide release, "Hidden Figures" has proven that there is an appetite and a need for great storytelling that depicts African Americans in a positive light while educating us on the important role we have played in history.

The numbers don't lie.... "Hidden Figures" surpassed Disney-Lucasfilm’s "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" by over $1 million and landed in the number one spot at the box office by accumulating $22.8 million in over the weekend. This is quite a feat, especially since the space-race drama is playing in almost 1,700 less theaters than "Rogue One" ("Hidden Figures" is playing at 2,471 theaters and "Rogue One", 4,157).

The film, which brilliantly tells the incredible story of the three African American women who helped send NASA to space, stars Taraji P. Henson as Katherine Johnson, Janelle Monáe as Mary Jackson, and Octavia Spencer as Dorothy Vaughan.

Have you seen Hidden Figures yet? If not, what are you waiting for?! Take your daughters and your sons! Organize groups. We need to support movies like this to ensure our stories are told!
