Colonel Lorna M. Mahlock has recently been nominated to serve as a brigadier general in the United States Marine Corps. If confirmed, she will be the first Black woman to fulfill the position.
Mahlock currently serves as the deputy director of operations, plans, policies, and operations directorate at the Marine Corps’ headquarters in Washington, D.C. Prior to stepping into that position in August of 2017, Mahlock worked as a Commanding Officer of Marine Air Control Group 18 and Chief Information Officer of G6.
According to her Linkedin page, Mahlock earned a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, and a master's in Military Strategic Studies, as well as a master's in Training and Development in Adult and Higher Education.

The Secretary of Defense, James Mattis, announced Mahlock's nomination on Tuesday, which comes three years after the Pentagon's decision to open all combat jobs in the United States military to women.
As reported by ABC News, women only make up 8 percent of the Marine Corps. The military branch just welcomed its first female infantry officer last year. The woman wishes to remain nameless, but she made history as the first female to finish training for a military occupational specialty.
Congratulations Col. Mahlock on your historic nomination!
