Black Excellence was in full effect at the Golden Globes last night. From the Black love exuded on the red carpet, to history being made, to the iconic Apollo Creed of Rocky (Carl Weathers) assisting with the final award presentation....excellence, #blackgirlmagic and #blackboyjoy effortlessly stole the show. Check out our 5 reasons why we're glad we tuned in.
1. Less than 10 minutes into the show Tracee Ellis Ross made history when she became the first Black woman since 1983 to win Best Actress in a TV Series – Comedy or Musical.
"This is for all the women, women of color and colorful people whose stories, ideas, thoughts are not always considered worthy, valid and important. But I want to tell you, I see you, we see you... "- Tracee Ellis Ross (acceptance speech)

3. Viola Davis won Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in “Fences”. Davis not only lit up the stage with her beautiful yellow dress, but of course her inspirational words. She thanked her co-star Denzel and dedicated the award to her father.
"To the original Troy, my father Dan Davis. Born in 1936, groomed horses, had a fifth grade education, didn’t know how to read until he was 15. But you know what, he had a story and it deserved to be told and August Wilson told it." - Viola Davis (acceptance speech)
