The Golden Globes are tonight, but let's go back to 1983 when Debbie Allen became the first Black woman to win a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy. She won for her role as Lydia Grant in FAME.
With Issa Rae and Tracee Ellis Ross' nominations, it marks the first time in over 30 years (1985) that Black women have been nominated in this category. If (read: when) Tracee or Issa win, it will be the second time that an African American has won Best Actress in a TV Comedy or Musical.
Rae is nominated for her role in her HBO comedy "Insecure", which got the nod for a 2nd season, and Ross, for her role in ABC's "Black-ish."
