Do you remember Kheris Rogers, the pre-teen who created an empowering clothing line after being severely bullied at school for her skin tone? Well now the 11-year-old is one of the youngest fashion designers to present her clothing line at New York Fashion Week.
Kheris created her own clothing line called "Flexin' In My Complexion" after her 22-year-old sister Taylor Pollard tweeted photos of her along with a caption: "My sister is only 10, but already royalty #FlexinInHerComplexion."
Pollard posted the photos on Twitter in hopes of boosting Kheris' confidence; it did just that and more. The tweet went viral and inspired the then 10-year-old to start a clothing line that would "encourage others to be confident in their skin." Fast forward to almost six months later, Kheris' inspiring message has made its way to New York Fashion Week.
Kheris joins the ranks of another young designer, Egypt "Ify" Ufele, who became the only child designer to dress curvy models at New York Fashion Week last year. After being bullied for her size at school, Egypt created "Chubiline", which includes African inspired fashions that celebrates all sizes.
But wait, there's more! Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong'o recently posted a photo of herself wearing Kheris' t-shirt along with a caption that read: "I see you, I feel you, I support you, Kheris! And I love my shirt! #FlexinInMyComplexion. #WCW the young entrepreneur #KherisRogers, beautiful by ANY STANDARDS. #LoveTheSkinYouAreIn.
Yes to all this Black girl magic, beauty and brilliance! Keep shining, Kheris!
